Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan

Super old news, but still a bummer. I have no doubt that Hannigan is capable of success as a solo artist. Being that she's been associated with Rice all these years, Hannigan herself has obtained quite a following amongst folk enthusiasts. And while I strongly feel that her absence from Damien's future recordings will change the vibe of his songs, I welcome the spin on tone and emotion that comes of this change. He's a musical freakin' genius. He's been my favorite solo artist for 3 years and counting. No contest. The following excerpt is from Damien's official website.

Band update - 25 Mar 2007
After much thought and discussion Damien has decided that his professional relationship with Lisa Hannigan has run its creative course. As a result Lisa will not be appearing at any of the upcoming live shows. Lisa is embarking on her own artistic endeavours and there are no plans for them to work together in the foreseeable future. The current band on tour at the moment are - Damien Rice, Joel Shearer, Shane Fitzsimons, Tom Osander & Vyvienne Long.

More Reasons Why Britain Rules

So much goodness going down in the British pop culture scene!

An end of an era in Britain it is! Tony Blair (a dashing, dashing man) steps down as Britain's Prime Minister, making way for the newly appointed (and far less dashing) Gordon Brown. David Beckham says 'adios' to Real Madrid, and promises to change the outlook on soccer/football in the states. Meanwhile, wife Victoria Beckham sets to embark on an 11 city reunion tour with the Spice Girls (like, who doesn't have "Wannabe" on their iPod?). Princes William and Harry host a successful charity concert in memory of their late mother, Diana Spencer, former Princess of Wales. Prince William and Kate Middleton keep us guessing: will there be a reconciliation or not? In even bigger news, when the heck did Harry become hotter than Will? Speaking of sexy Harry's, the new Harry Potter film will debut in less than two weeks! It's going to be the highlight of my July! I've readied myself by watching all 4 preceding Potter flicks during the month of June. I don't want to miss one single detail! And wow, that Hermione has sure grown into a little hottie. Click here for a spoiler!

That Coat, Those Tights

Goodbye April. But where were your showers to bring on May flowers?

It's safe to say that southern California is about done with it's cooler weather. Notice I said cooler and not cold. Attention world: California has lost its winter. Will someone please help us find it! This icky 90 degree weather in April makes me look foolish for safekeeping all of the borderline/crazy expensive coats I've accumulated over the recent "winters" - a term used lightly to describe the one week a year when it rains. Sigh. Farewell to the semi-season of cute tights and even cuter coats. Hello icky sweat and even ickier bugs.

My Thoughts in Bullet Points

  • My favorite Usher song is "Yeah". It is, by far, not the most lyrically moving song. But it is the song that I've danced my heart-out to on more than a dozen occasions. That alone makes it better than any painfully melodic love song.

  • Apparently, Rachel Bilson and I have the same taste in men. She dated (my dream guy) Adam Brody for x-amount of years, and now she's with (my ex 'play' boyfriend) Hayden Christensen. What a lucky, skinny, little shiz.

  • An open letter to Mike Bibby: Please shave your head. You do not look right with hair. Love, Rowena

  • In preparation for the first post-season Laker game tomorrow, all of the sports networks have been airing replays of last year's Lakers vs Suns playoff series. Five words: Raja Bell is a dick.

  • Daniel Craig is one hell of a sexy, rugged, James Bond. Yes, I just saw Casino Royale. Dope ass movie. I have to eat my words - especially since I was very anti getting rid of Pierce Brosnan. But Daniel stole every dang scene. He's by no means the best looking Bond, but his man's man persona makes the bloke muy caliente.

  • Happy 23rd Birthday to my closest girl-friend, Ayana.

Favorite Celebrity Babies

I've been meaning to post this entry for the longest time! I just have to chime in with my two cents on the baby wars! Within the past 3 years, Hollywood has had an explosion of uncontainable cuteness! Here, in order of cuteness and (my) obsession:

6th Cutest Celebrity Baby
Kingston Rossdale
Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani

In 18 years, Kingston's gonna be mackin' on all the babies listed below. In the interim, could this boy be any more rock-n-roll? We wouldn't have expected less from Gavin Rossdale's sperm. Who wouldn't want to have his half British offspring?

5th Cutest Celebrity Baby
Matilda Ledger
Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams

Matilda. The name alone makes me smile in delight. If there's one thing Heath Ledger can't do, it's to ever deny that this child is his. I don't think that there's any other child in Hollywood that looks more like her papa.

4th Cutest Celebrity Baby
Violet Affleck
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

There is no picture of baby Violet that doesn't involve dimples. This child is flat out adorable, and is no doubt her mother's daughter.

3rd Cutest Celebrity Baby
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Were you really surprised at how cute this kid came out? Most pics of baby Shiloh make her look 'average', but the two photos shown here really show off the trademark pout and piercing baby blues.

2nd Cutest Celebrity Baby
Suri Cruise
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Suri Cruise is Asian, and I'm stickin' to it. Of all the babies listed here, Suri Cruise will probably grow up to be the most beautiful. Really, look at her! The dark brown hair and grey eyes! Hello, my dream child!

1st Cutest Celebrity Baby
Apple Martin
Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Apple can kill you with her cuteness. Really, it doesn't get any cuter than this peach. There are no more words. Just silence.

So there you have it. You CBB readers can stop fighting now. They're all fashionably cute in their own miniature ways. All with obnoxiously unique names. Honorable mentions go to Debra Messing's son Roman and the Witherspoon-Philippe children (Ava and Deacon).

The OC Says Goodbye

Photo: Adam Brody

I'll admit it: for the past several years, The OC has been my guilty pleasure. Now that it's met its demise, there will no longer be weekly helpings of Adam Brody - a man who encapsulates a lot of the qualities I expect out of an alpha male. Like oh my gosh, he's like, so hot.

The series finale was satisfying - although a huge part of me wanted Mischa Barton to come back for a cameo (maybe as a dream? a hallucination?). Anyway, thank God the Cohen's got out of Orange County (after realizing it's not all it's made up to be). And unlike real-life Adam and real-life Rachel, their characters ended up getting married. Le Sigh.

Since Adam Brody is single and job-less now, he should take some down time to get to know the little people. While a part of me suggests that he become cuddle buddies with Natalie Portman, it's quite obvious that she is too good for him. But I'm not - so holla!

The New Who?

Photo: Bilson, 2007

Perez Hilton dubbed her 'The New Natalie Portman'. But as much as I love Rachel Bilson (and I love her a lot), there will never, ever be another Natalie Portman. Let alone a 'new' one. That doesn't mean we can't appreciate how unbelievably cute Rachel Bilson is - so let's!

People's Choice Awards

A friend of mine - who so happens to have my dream job at CBS - scored my mom and I tickets to the PCA last night. So after a quick stop at the studio, mom and I arrived at the Shrine with our excitement in tow. Being that I've been to several award shows in the past (bite me), I already knew the drill: no cameras and no cell phones with cameras, so we got through security pretty smoothly, and secured our 2nd row seats on the balcony. Now, if you've ever been to the Shrine, you can appreciate how damn close we were to the stage. Granted, we were no where near arm's length from our fave celebs, but still - we were there.

We really didn't care too much about who was to be there - except Jennifer Aniston! We're so team Aniston (Though lately, Angelina Jolie is making it really hard to hate her. In time she'll grow on me, I just know it. Not.).

Conference Recap

We all stayed in our first class suites at the Queen Mary on Monday night (on company dime). It was alright. It was a bit old for my taste, but I love things that are spooky – so that part was good. Downtown Long Beach was quite lovely, and the scenery almost made me forget that the place is straight ghetto. Almost.

The women’s conference was amazing! We ended up getting so many more free gifts than we could have imagined, and the speakers were just phenomenal. I’ll save you the glorified recap and just say that it was very very very empowering. I want to be rich and powerful more so now – not for glory, but to be an architect of change.

Highlights:
Maria Shriver was a phenomenal public speaker.
TJ Russert made me cry a little.
Anna Quindlen had a lot of smart things to say.
Sarah Ferguson is my future aunt. She was fabulous.
The Dalai Lama was a comedian. And put him in my pocket.
Marth Stewart was wack.

The best part was when Stacy London and Clinton Kelly (from TLC's What Not To Wear) pulled my coworker Julie up on stage (who is their biggest fan, no lie) to give her a 360 consultation! I'm glad to say that they loved her outfit. She proclaimed that with the exception of her wedding and the birth of her children, that was the best day of her life. Watch her on Time Warner cable: TV on demand!

Pacific Life Open

http://www.pacificlifeopen.com/

We voyaged out into Indian Wells last Wed. to watch Sharapova rock Groenefeld's world, after a friend's friend scored us six tickets for the big night. As most men would agree, Sharapova was hot like fire! We watched the Blake v. Haas game too.. but had to make a quiet exit because it was past 10pm, we had a 1 hour and 10 minute drive ahead of us, there were still talks of having dinner (we were hongry!), and I had to be awake at 5:20am the next morning for work.. oh the life of a grown woman.

All picture credits go to Catherine and her one helluva Canon.
